Our Third Project

Supporting the people of in Jaffna, Sri Lanka

Our third project has been completed in July 2017, and the charity has raised funds to support Base Hospital Point Pedro and Base Hospital Tellippalai in the Northern Province of Sri Lanka. After meeting with the directors of both hospitals in July 2016, a list of equipment was provided that was urgently needed by the hospital to improve their management of patients.

Fundraising for the purchase of the equipment included repeating our highly successful skydiving event, repeating the trek of Machu Picchu in Peru, hosting a New Year’s Ball in London to appeal for funds from the local community, and organising fundraising activities at primary and secondary schools.

The equipment that The Little Things has donated will be purchased from GoodHealth Inc, a medical equipment distributor based in India, and both Analytical Instruments Ltd and Mediquipment Ltd, both medical equipment distributors based in Sri Lanka.

From these suppliers, the following equipment has been purchased:

  • 2 x Motorised operating table with surgeon's chair

  • 3 x Multi Parameter patient monitor with ETCO 2 (capnography)

  • 3 x ECG 12 Channel

  • 2 x Defibrillator

  • 4 x Ultrasonic Nebuliser

  • Minividas Hormone Analyser

  • Mediview image management and reporting system

  • Height adjustable stretcher trolley

  • Suction machine double jar

The above equipment will enable safer surgery in the operating theatres whilst allowing the hospital to operate on more patients, safer management of patients in the emergency treatment rooms and wards, and better analyses of patient’s health using a hormone analyser. The total cost for all the equipment is estimated to be £35,000.
